Playlist - 9/18/2016

Hi Folks.

While completely preempted the previous Sunday, we came back with a full show this Sunday.  It included some early bluesy material from Gene Autry, Lowe Stokes, Clayton McMichen, and Ephraim Woodie.

Wade Mainer left this earth September 12, 2011 at the age of 104. We remembered Wade by playing part of an interview he did with record producer John Morris around 1999, and also a live performance of a tune from the late 1960s.

Rev. Frank Newsom of Haysi, Virginia has been known for years as a great a cappella gospel singer, was a favorite of Ralph Stanley, and in fact sang at Ralph's funeral.  We played the song he performed at the funeral, and followed with his grandson, Sammy Yates, carrying on the mountain music tradition with assistance from Columbus Fleming and James Stiltner.

Joe Bussard's 49th show planned for last week was preempted, so I combined new songs to the show from show #49 with Joe's 50th show, and that's what we got to hear.  You can hear it again here.

Jim will be away next Sunday, so Marti will bring you a pre-recorded version of the show along with Joe Bussard's 51st Country Classics program.
